Taking into account the amount of magazine covers, editorials, shows walked, commercial viability and social stats, the Models.com rankings have always been a battleground for the supers and new faces alike to fight it out for that #1 spot… or at least a place in the Top 50. But in the first Model of the Year Awards (MOTY), Models.com take a look at the bigger picture, asking over 250 of the fashion elite, including Edward Enninful, Katie Grand, i-D Casting Director Angus Munro and Nicola Formichetti to pick their top boys and girls, pitching them next to the reader’s choice. For Model of the Year, the industry chose Edie while the people chose Cara. For Breakout Star the industry chose Anna while the people chose Kendall (with Binx Walton and Gigi Hadid as respective runners up). Looks like the impact of social media means the it-model‘s star is on the ascendant, whether the industry approve or not. Two things that everyone agrees on however is that doll-faced beauty Gemma Ward was 2014’s Comeback of the Year and Queen Delevingne was Social Media Star with Kendall coming in a close second.
