Tennis = FILA, and that’s a fact. The historical Italian brand has been an integral part of this world for exactly 110 years, caught between Made in Italy and innovation, tradition and experimentation, sport and fashion. 110 years that are tangible proof of the multifaceted and continuously adapting nature of the vast brand heritage, uniting entire generations under the FILA logo.
Thus, on the occasion of this historic anniversary and the major tennis tournament in Paris, the brand has decided to join forces with MSGM to create YOU ARE MY MATCH POINT, a capsule collection that blends the heritage of FILA with that of Massimo Giorgetti’s brand. The Milanese brand has been nurturing an idea of visionary fashion for years, conveyed through dynamic graphics and bright prints, cheeky silhouettes and pop imagery, the same type of boldness that also characterizes FILA. The capsule collection takes shape from the FILA archive, a vault of inspirations, research and intuitions in which Giorgetti has completely immersed himself, creating a project based on the subversion of iconic FILA pieces, influenced and revolutionized by the shimmering vision of the MSGM creative director.
Miniskirts, polo shirts, halter tops and other traditional tennis items are enhanced with ruffles, strong prints and lace. Even the colours of FILA (white, blue and red) are replaced by a more acidic and bleached palette, adding further energy to an already extremely dynamic collection. These are the pieces that will be worn by Karolina Pliskova, Sofia Kenin, Reilly Opelka and Diego Schwartzman right on the court in Paris.
Since we’re talking about FILA and MSGM, there’s also a romantic side, as you can probably guess from the title of the capsule collection; in the details of the clothes; and in the imagery created for its fashion film. The short film, shot by Oliver Hadlee Pearch with music by Bernardino Femminielli, tells the story of a love triangle set directly on a tennis court.
The collection unfolds, romantic and nostalgic as well as tangible and solid, incorporating the more traditional styles of tennis, inserting them in 2021 and giving life to the perfect kit to play on the clay court. Letting ourselves be inspired by this unique collaboration, we at i-D created the below editorial.
