After a year without a Creative Director at the helm, British luxury brand Mulberry has appointed Johnny Coca. The Head Design Director for accessories at Celine will be in charge of all of Mulberry’s collections from 8th July next year, becoming the first Creative Director since Emma Hill’s departure.

Coca was in charge of leather goods, shoes, hard accessories, jewellery and sunglasses at Celine, creating standout accessories during his tenure, bringing out mink-lined Birkenstock style sandals, furry stilettos and the iconic Luggage tote. Coca said, “I very much look forward to joining Mulberry as their new Creative Director and to leading a new design direction at one of the very best British Brands.”

Mulberry’s Chairman and CEO Godfrey Davis said, “We are delighted that Johnny is joining us. He has a wealth of international luxury and fashion experience that will help us bring new energy and innovation to Mulberry.”

Johnny was born in Seville to Spanish parents and after moving to France studied art, architecture and design at the École des Beaux-Arts and École Boulle in Paris. He is also reported to have a long-standing interest in and love of British culture and style and is keen to work in the heart of London. He also teaches at Central St Martins and intends to ensure that Mulberry continues its tradition of encouraging new young talent as he helps to build the next generation at Mulberry.

Mulberry is the largest luxury leather goods manufacturer in the UK with a turnover of £164m and 122 stores across the world.
