An installation titled “Where Are We Going to Dance Tonight?” by Italian artists Goldschmied and Chiari went straight to the bin on Friday evening, after cleaners mistook it for the aftermath of a wild opening night party. It’s a fair mistake, considering the installation was composed of 300 empty champagne bottles, cigarette butts, disco balls and confetti.
The work might soon return to the Museum for Modern and Contemporary Art, thanks to the cleaner’s conscientious clear-out. They sorted the installation into ordinary trash, then glass paper for recycling as Artnet has it. The museum reckons they’ll be able to reinstall it shortly. Here’s what “Where Are We Going to Dance Tonight?” looked like post clean-up.
