The last piece of information we grabbed about the Twin Peaks reboot was almost too good to be true: Laura Dern (of Blue Velvet) was moving into town. With estimates of an early 2017 premiere, it looks like the project is finally gaining serious speed, after a few false starts.
First, David Lynch left the project after conflicts with SHOWTIME (the Network funding the series). He soon returned upon the casts’ insistence, and SHOWTIME’s promise of extra cash. Once he came back for good, Lynch started reeling in cast members left, right and centre; with Amanda Seyfried, Peter Sarsgaard, and Balthazar Getty all signing on.
The supernatural enclave’s original stars have also guaranteed they’ll be there. Sherilyn Fenn confirmed she will reprise her role as Audrey Horne and Sheryl Lynn Lee will return as Laura Palmer. But the newest cast member to join the fold isn’t an original resident. Still, Lynch fans will surely appreciate her presence in the town: Naomi Watts is moving in.
Lynch’s cult classicMulholland Drive gave Naomi her big break, and while mainstream audiences were baffled by the film, she became a household name all the same. It’s been 15 years since the film premiered, so we’re exciting to see what kind of strange magic the pair will weave together this time around.
