nes: music to… kick on to

Then after the show, it's the after party.

As summer creeps closer, so do the short nights that leak into blurry, happy mornings. Call them all nighters, after parties, or kick ons, they’re a marathon event. Make it through eight hours on the dance floor and be rewarded with a sunrise and the option to catch public transport home.

Of course, it’s a tricky move. Approach your kick on wrong and you’ll be paying for it in body and soul all week. With this in mind and ahead of her performance at House of Bacardi this Thursday, Sydney DJ and master of parties Nes has created a house parties inspired mix to help you through Friday morning.

“I thought back to some of the best house parties and kick ons I’ve been to, where every space and room has a different dynamic, mood and vibe- you could be eating snacks in the kitchen, cutting shapes on the d-floor/living room or sitting in an empty spa bath chatting about life,” she explained to i-D.

Music to shift your mood from staying in to staying up all night…Grove St. Party (feat.Kebo Gotti), Waka Flocka Flame. Music for fiery arguments and emotional goodbyes…I Don’t Fuck With You (feat. E- 40), Big Sean. Music to kiss and make up to…Kiss It Better, Rihanna. Music to heal a broken heart…Sure Thing, Miguel. Music to change your night from mediocre to magnificent…Whatever You Like, T.I. Music to take a long drive to…The Great Mixtape, Sampa the Great. Music to walk down the aisle to…Really Love, D’Angelo. Music you’d like played at your funeral…Miss You, Aaliyah. Music to have sex to…Controlla, Drake. Music to celebrate your birthday to...Come Down (feat. T.I), Anderson Paak. Music guaranteed to give you serious swagger…Tomboy, Princess Nokia. Music to make even the wallflowers dance…Sean Paul’s greatest hits.
Music to play at the afterparty when it’s 6am and the sun is beginning to rise…Starboy (feat. Daft Punk), The Weekend. Music that could put even an insomniac to sleep…James Blake’s first record.
