Watch the spooky new trailer for Ryan Murphy’s Ratched

Sarah Paulson as a sadistic nurse? Yes please.

Thanks to the fact the coronavirus pandemic halted filming on all our favourite shows this spring, we’re looking at a lack of great, bingeable TV to see us through autumn’s inevitable second lockdown (sorry but someone had to say it). Luckily though, Ryan Murphy managed to squeeze in production for Ratched — a series inspired by the titular Nurse Ratched from One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest — just in time.

After releasing the first images of the show, led by icon and frequent Ryan Murphy collaborator Sarah Paulson in the titular role, the first trailer has now dropped, and it looks as spooky and juicy as you’d expect.

Out on Netflix on 18 September, Ratched tells the origin story of Ken Kesey’s tyrannical nurse, who terrorised patients at the original Oregon psychiatric hospital. In the trailer we see a little of Nurse Ratched’s back story, from her arrival in California after the end of WWII, to her transformation from powerless, quiet nurse to fully-fledged murderous monster.

Alongside Sarah Paulson, the nine-episode series will also star Cynthia Nixon, Sharon Stone, along with American Crime Story and American Horror Story’s Finn Wittrock, and Brandon Flynn — who played Justin in similarly campy and deranged Netflix series 13 Reasons Why.

Check out the full trailer here. We can’t wait to see it.
