Nicki Minaj will play a “sassy” new hairdresser in the third installment of Chicago coiffeur comedy Barbershop. The singer and rapper will co-star as Draya, who works in the beauty parlor at the salon, alongside fellow musicians-turned-actors Ice Cube, Common (who won an Oscar with his music for Selma) and Eve, and possibly Queen Latifah too, if the rumors are to be believed.
It is Minaj’s second film role, after she played Cameron Diaz’s assistant in 2014 romcom The Other Woman, which also starred model Kate Upton. And it sounds like Minaj is nowhere near done with the silver screen, as she predicted a diverse acting future for herself while on that film’s promo trail. “I have such a versatile personality,” she told MTV, “Some days I feel like I wanna do a Will Ferrell comedy; some days I feel like I wanna do more like a Set It Off-type of movie with some other young black actresses and like creating a movement with that. And sometimes I think, maybe I could do X-Men or something.” With Pink Friday and The Pinkprint already under her belt, perhaps Minaj would make the perfect Pink Panther pilferer?
