GLOW, an 80s TV show about female wrestlers, doesn’t seem like an obvious choice for a revival, but then, a drama about female prisoners didn’t seem like a winner and now look at the phenomenon that is Orange Is the New Black. GLOW (Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling) is the latest woman centric drama from OITNB creator Jenji Kohan to hit Netflix. Featuring “Big hair and body slams” (incredible) according to THR, the comedy was created by Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, and is all about an out-of-work actress, who in a last ditch attempt at fame becomes a female wrestler.
Possibly the best factoid to be revealed is that the first GLOW was inspired by Jackie Stallone’s gym, called Barbarella’s — beyond! We can only imagine what must’ve gone on there. The show joins an exciting upcoming schedule on Netflix, which includes Sophia Amoruso’s #Girlboss and a Drew Barrymore series Santa Clarita Diet.
Here’s the trailer for the original GLOW, featuring awkward dancing and rapping in the ring…
