Finding your feet as a photographer, making it your occupation rather than your hobby, is a hard transition to make. Thankfully, the PALM* Photo Prize has for six years made it their mission to find the next generation of stand-out photographers and reward them for their work.
Since 2020’s edition, i-D editor-in-chief Alastair McKimm has been one of the prize’s judges. In 2024, he will return — alongside Emma Bowkett, Dana Lixenberg, Gem Fletcher, Kalpesh Lathigra, Derek Wiafe, Jono Tusder and Lola Paprocka — to find the next great photographic talent. Entries are open now for those looking to take part.
2022’s winner Kennedi Carter has gone on to stage solo shows, while 2021’s Yara Wernicke has had her work published in a monograph by Loose Joints. This is all to say that it’s a co-sign that really matters.
If you fancy getting involved, it couldn’t be easier. Simply submit your photograph to Palm* on their website via Picter. There’s no theme or brief, the only rules are that you must have taken the photograph yourself and it must be just that — a photo. No paintings or illustrations.
100 of the best will be chosen to be exhibited at the Palm* Photo Prize Exhibition at the Melkweg Expo in Amsterdam in May 2024, and then later in London’s 10 14 Gallery in September 2024.
Five will be selected to win standalone prizes: there’s the Judge’s Panel prizes, both first and second place, then the People’s Choice Award, the
Canvas Represents Mentorship Award for unsigned photographers, and the Post Production on personal or editorial project supported by INK.
Head to the Palm* Photo Prize website to submit yours now before submissions close on 30 November.
