FKA Twigs has shared a haunting teaser for her upcoming exhibition-cum-performance ROOMS. The artist announced the project two weeks ago, explaining the 12 room installation will tell the story of “diamas on a journey through the zodiac chart, in search of her spiritual and zodiac home.” Each room has been filled by a different artist or collective, to represent one of the star signs. Last week, Twigs invited guests to view the rooms purely as installations, before the performance aspect of the project begins tomorrow.
On the evenings of October 27 and 28, 30 performers will join Twigs on her journey through the ROOMS. “I’m working with incredible artists, set designers, dancers, choreographers, performance artists, actors, costume, hair, makeup and more to bring the story to life,” she wrote on Instagram.
Today we were given our first taste of the performances: Twigs shared a beautiful, tactile video of she and collaborator Olivier de Sagazan writhing around in paint and clay. “Olivier is just so amazing,” she captioned the Billy Boyd Cape-directed clip, “words can’t describe his levels of truth.” The French artist, known for his live performance, writes that his practice centers around “building layers of clay and paint onto [his] own face and body to transform, disfigure and take apart [his] own figure.”
The video is a preview of the performance Twigs and Olivier will give in the Scorpio room, designed by artist Gary Card. Shout out to everyone under the eighth sign of the zodiac. Watch it here.
