Mother-daughter team Elisa and Lily of StyleLikeU spoke with Petra Collins for the latest in their What’s Underneath series. Discussing style, image and identity as she gradually strips down to her underwear, the film pulls apart airbrushed perceptions of beauty, empowering women to embrace their true selves. “As much as I preach self-love, it’s still hard to practice it,” admits Petra before going on to talk honestly and openly about her own insecurities, periods, body hair and the world’s obsession with – and sexualization of – youth. “Not shaving was the first step towards accepting my body as it was,” she says before pointing out that women’s body hair is simply something that isn’t discussed, with even razor ads failing to feature hair. “It’s insane – they’re shaving nothing!” Is #freeyourpits the next #freethenipple?
