Dutch photographer and director Anton Corbijn has been following rock idols since the 1970s. His privileged relationships with Depeche Mode, R.E.M. and U2 have resulted in the most iconic pictures of these groups. When Fotomuseum in Den Haag (Netherlands) contacted him for an exhibition, he selected 350 photographs from his numerous archives. You won’t be surprised to discover Nirvana, Metallica, The Rolling Stones, Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Patti Smith, Arcade Fire and more are featured in the exhibition as well as in the 1-2-3-4 book.
There are also portraits of Joe Cocker, Grace Jones, David Bowie, Johnny Cash, Courtney Love and Morrissey, which have never been shown before. Michael Stipe, Bono and Dave Gahan have also written revealing stories about their times on set with the photographer.
Anton Corbijn will sign his book at Colette at 5pm on Wednesday, May 20.
1-2-3-4 is published by Editions Xavier Barral. Exhibition runs until June 21 at Gemeente Museum in Den Haag. More information here.
