The last time PJ Harvey toured America, Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” was bumping on everyone’s iPod Nano and Kim Kardashian was still finalizing her divorce from Kris Humphries. Now Polly Jean has announced what will be her first U.S. tour dates in five years, off the back of her ninth studio album The Hope Six Demolition Project. She’ll play New York City’s Terminal 5 on August 16 and Los Angeles’ Shrine Expo Hall two days later.

Harvey’s new album has already caused a bit of controversy for the ballsy British musician and poet. Her track “Community of Hope” aggravated American politicians due to its depiction of the underdeveloped Ward 7 area of Washington DC. “Here’s the highway to death and destruction, South Capitol is it’s name,” she sings, “and the school just looks like shit-hole, does that look like a nice place?” In response, the mayor’s campaign treasurer Chuck Thies made the bizarre claim that “PJ Harvey is to music what Piers Morgan is to cable news.” The Hope Six Demolition Project also makes pitstops in Kosovo and Afghanistan.

Tickets for PJ Harvey’s U.S. shows go on sale from this Friday 13 May.
