Traditionally, fashion designers have appeared in our lives as strange, ethereal beings, not quite tied to our everyday reality. They exist in their own little worlds, and we watch them from the sidelines and admire the beautiful things they create. The coronavirus pandemic though, has forced the fashion industry to restructure and become more transparent, more digital, and overall more accessible to anyone who can’t just fly halfway across the world to attend a showcase.
As the distance between designer and spectator shrinks, more opportunities are becoming available to see the magic behind the shows and find out more about the creators’ processes. To that end, ahead of their first show together as Co-Creative Directors later this week, Prada has announced a special Q&A event with Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons.
The digital in-conversation is set to take place immediately after the luxury house’s SS21 show on Thursday (24 September). The collection is notable both in being Prada’s first post-lockdown presentation but also the first joint collection created by the pair, after Raf joined the house back in February this year. It will be streamed digitally — natch — across the world, and in addition to the Q&A event, Prada is also holding “local private screenings” and “virtual viewing events”. They’re really going all out.
If you’re currently waiting with bated breath to see what the world’s newest and most iconic duo are preparing to show, and dying to ask them about it, you can submit a question on the Prada website now. Questionnaires, but make it fashion.
