They say two is a party and three is a crowd, but what about 27? The number of models that make up Prada’s fall/winter 16 campaign, silly! Yes that’s right, for its latest offering, the Italian brand has enlisted the help of 27 models, framed as individuals or in small groups, against multiple artificial backgrounds. Here is a conceptual world of opposites, where day and night collide, and the desert runs into the ocean.
This idea of individualism and diversity is also reflected in the choice of models: from new supers Natalie Westling, Lexi Boling, Fei Fei Sun, and Londone Myers to legends Milla Jovovich, Stella Tennant, Raquel Zimmermann, and Sasha Pivovarova.
Shot by Steven Meisel, the fragmented campaign ultimately represents the current cultural bricolage that inspired Miuccia Prada’s sumptuous collection. “The designer depicts a woman’s identity as conundrum, an intersection of overlapping and interdependent systems” Prada explain. “Every woman carries on her body fragments of her own history, her experiences, her loves, her tragedies. These various references accrue with time, with age, with knowledge, so that each woman is an ineffable agglomeration of the symbols and indices of her personal journey.” In short, it’s Miuccia’s most dynamic campaign yet!
