Prince has dropped his 33rd album, HITNRUN Phase One, exclusively on TIDAL. The eleven-track set arrived on Jay Z’s streaming service earlier today, joining Prince’s full back catalogue there. As part of his deal with TIDAL, Prince will be selecting a ‘Purple Pick of the Week’ for the service, which will take the form of a brand new track or rarity from the vaults “curated personally” by the legend.
Prince announced his deal with TIDAL last month, describing it as a “non-restrictive agreement”, which suggests that HITNRUN Phase One might be available on other platforms in the future. “After one meeting, it was obvious that Jay Z and the team he has assembled at TIDAL recognise and applaud the effort that real musicians put in2 their craft 2 achieve the very best they can at this pivotal time in the music industry,” Prince said in a statement in August. “TIDAL have honoured Us with a non-restrictive arrangement that once again allows Us to continue making art in the fashion We’ve grown accustomed 2 and We’re Extremely grateful 4 their generous support.”
HITNRUN Phase One follows the two albums Prince released simultaneously last September, Art Official Age and Plectrumelectrum, both of which charted inside the US top ten.
