Pyer Moss announces its Open Studio 2 collaboration

The brand put out an open call to create work reflecting its ethos and Black liberation.

In September, designer Kerby Jean-Raymond put out a call to the Pyer Moss community, asking them to work with his team to create work reflecting what his brand is about. Kerby is no stranger to collaboration, having already worked with artists including Jamilla Okubo, Johnny Nelson and Aurora James for the huge production that was their runway show for SS20, at the iconic King’s Theatre in New York. “‘Open Studio’ is our way of having our audience help create this art project I like to call Pyer Moss,” says the designer. “It’s been a long, hard year and it was important for us to find a way to reconnect and reunite.”

The photographs, by Micaiah Carter, show what the brand calls “The luxury of Black Liberation.” The collection focuses on the contributions of Sister Rosetta Tharpe, the Black woman who invented Rock ‘N’ Roll, and uses artwork by artist Richard Phillips to commemorate Tharpe’s life. “I am so grateful to the models, stylist, photographers, set designers, designers and glam teams who helped us conduct ‘Open Studio 2’ and for helping us create history, welcome to the family. I can’t say enough how much I appreciate your continued support and collaboration. These images will serve as our official Collection 3 campaign. We look forward to showing the results in the coming days,” says Kerby. See the campaign imagery below.
