Over at London’s ICA, designer, fashion illustrator and all round art girl Julie Verhoeven has a show in their perfectly secreted away Fox Reading Room. Whiskers Between My Legs is Julie’s homage to female identity, her draped and erotic cushion-sculpture installation is fascinating and tongue-in-cheek, with a serious and questioning stream of thought attached to it. The whole thing is quite engulfing as you enter her explicit and claustrophobic private world. Her new work includes a film titled Julie Verhoeven’s Golden Nuggets, in which she joyfully plays with her quirky dressing up box, creating imagery filled with innuendo. What goes on in Julie’s mind? We endeavour to find out!

What is the thing do you look forward to everyday?
Switching on the telly with a beer and trough of pop corn.

How do you work best? Under pressure or at a leisurely pace…
Somewhere between the two, veering more towards the manic side.

    What makes you angry?
Death, infidelity, bad manners and cycling on pavements.

    What’s your favourite colour?
I am ashamed to say its pink, any shade, closely followed by pea green.

What recurring themes seem to pop up in your work without you even thinking about it?
All sexual genitalia, clouds, punctuation marks, bricks, eggs, toilet accessories & bras.

What has made you question your work process and conclusions?
The clock on the wall with its hands moving so fast, has made me question everything.

What’s the best thing about being a woman?
Without a doubt, it is having permission to wear make-up. I would be a sad specimen if I were a male.

If you were a fruit what would you be?
Pineapple? Heady aspirations in the barnet department.

    Knock, knock who’s there…
I don’t know, because I never answer my front door, as a rule.
