In 1983, Karl Lagerfeld joined Chanel to design haute couture. His debut collection was highly praised and The New York Times‘ headline read, “Lagerfeld guides Chanel into the 80s.” This led into the 90s, 00s, and beyond, as the brand continued to soar from strength to strength under Lagerfeld’s influence. Now, a new book — Chanel Catwalk — is exploring every runway collection created by Lagerfeld for the iconic house.

The book opens with the quote, “Fashion fades, style is eternal,” which couldn’t be more accurate in describing Lagerfeld’s work, reinventing the Chanel style for the post-modern era and developing into one of the most successful fashion unions of all time. From Naomi to Cara, ‘Arctic Chic’ to ‘Apocalyptic Androgyny,’ the book features the influences and highlights of each collection, showcasing hundreds of designs spanning 1983-2016, all strung together in chronological order. It’s a catalogue of inspiration offering a complete overview of Chanel’s most iconic designs and insight into Karl Lagerfeld’s vision.
