The next film in the Ocean’s series will be totally driven by women, and shooting begins very soon. Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett are already on board, and Deadline reports that contracts are about to be inked with Rihanna, Mindy Kaling, Helena Bonham Carter, and Anne Hathaway. YouTube rapper-turned-actress Awkwafina is also set to join. Basically, it’s the dream roster of diverse, talented women.
If you’ve done your math you’ve worked out there’s only seven names there — casting for the eighth member of the team is going down as we speak. Ocean’s 8 is no remake; but there is opportunity for some original cameos, so perhaps Brad Pitt will fill that final spot?
Ocean’s 8 will be produced by Ocean’s Eleven director Steven Soderbergh. Bullock, Blanchett, and Hathaway all have Oscars on their mantlepieces, there hasn’t been a more highly awarded female cast assembled before. Plus Riri just wrapped filming on the Luc Besson-directed Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. It’s almost unfair how good this lineup is.
