Australian actress Rose Byrne has teamed up with writer and actress Krey Boylan, director Gracie Otto, producer Jessica Carrera and director Shannon Murphy to form a production company called The Dollhouse Collective. Speaking on the collective’s inception, the women explained, “the idea has been germinating for a while. We are close friends and we have worked together, so it’s been a natural progression.”
By-and-large, the film industry remains a boy’s club; with five men employed for every one woman in cinema. The Dollhouse Collective already has three productions in development, each one spearheaded by women. This, and similar endeavors, is an essential step in changing the shape of filmmaking.
