When you think about it, Rowan Blanchard and Carrie Brownstein actually have a lot in common. Sure, Disney kids and Riot Grrrls don’t always go together, but they’re both intelligent, passionate women who have used their platform to fight for issues around gender, sexuality, and human rights.
Clearly taking note of their talent and cultural significance, Humberto Leon and Carol Lim invited them to pair up for Kenzo‘s latest short film. The Realest Real will be Carrie’s directorial debut, apparently a comedy about our obsession with technology. Rowan will lead the cast. The pairing of Carrie’s DIY punk background with Rowan’s Tumblr fueled charisma will no doubt make it an interesting take on the topic. And if Portlandia has shown us anything, it’s that Carrie is a master of top-notch satire.
Rounding out the unbelievably stacked cast are Natasha Lyonne, Mahershala Ali, Laura Harrier, and fellow rock goddess Kim Gordon. The Realest Real will debut at New York Fashion Week in September, but if you can’t wait that long consider revisiting some of the brand’s previous offerings.
