Described as “a pop-culture trivia show”, Gay for Play has “taken the best of gay sensibility and put it all in one place” RuPaul tells Vulture. The show will give contestants the chance to win over $5000 with the help of a panel of guest celebrities. What’s not to love?
In addition to disclosing this fabulous news, RuPaul also touched briefly on the success of Rupaul’s Drag Race, the show that “launched the careers of 100 drag queens” and has attracted millions of viewers worldwide. He defined the iconic series as “a story of strength”, adding that the contestants “have prevailed and succeeded against insurmountable odds”.
RuPaul finished the interview on a more serious note by expressing his views on drag’s relationship to the trans community. “[Drag] is poking fun at gender,” he says. “[The trans community] take identity very seriously. So it’s the complete opposite ends of the scale”.
Gay for Play airs on 11 April on Logo TV.
