Sade — superstar, eternal style icon, and frequent star of #WCW posts — has always kept a pretty low profile. Spending most of her time away from the public eye at her home in Gloucestershire, even her visits to the local garden center are treated as breaking music news. Her reclusiveness hasn’t dampened her appeal; her fan base continues to swell as she reaches near mythical status.
Among her many admirers is Drake, who has frequently spoken about his adoration of her. He’s even harbored hopes she’d make an appearance on his 2010 album Thank Me Later. While that collaboration never came to ahead, Sade was clearly aware of her famous fan’s devotion.
For his 30th birthday this week she sent him a framed photo of her “Babyfather” single with a note reading: “The 24th of October 1986 was a good day… Shine on, Drake. Love Sade.” Drake responded the way any human would, immediately Instagramming the gift. Captioning the post, “Woke up to see the most beautiful woman ever in my house.”
While the Canadian star has clearly claimed a place in Sade’s heart, his dreams of a collaboration might have to wait. The “Smooth Operator” singer has previously addressed her distaste for working with others, telling Canada’s National Post, “I’ve never collaborated because I’ve always avoided working outside my safety zone.” To be fair though, if anyone can make a woman feel comfortable, it might be Drake.
