serpentwithfeet announces debut ep ‘blisters,’ drops title track

The Brooklyn-based artist is back with a fresh cut of his signature R&B-slash-electronica.

Following on from the release of debut single “flickering” in June, serpentwithfeet has now announced his much anticipated debut EP, and released the title track, “blisters.”

After years experimenting in NY’s queer underground scene, “just posting something new every week on Soundcloud, waiting for someone to take notice,” serpentwithfeet says he decided he didn’t want to play with a band anymore, and developed a unique sound that used his classical training.

“I was like, ‘What would happen if I did my R&B thing over this classical shit?’,” he says. “It took a while, but I started to wonder if I could make something that satisfies other people and myself. I want the music to resonate with people.”

Starting with morning birdsong and shimmering synths, “blisters” develops with a delicate, somewhat Anohni-esque vocal over a harp, before doomy beats and atmospheric waves usher in a sassy handclap humming sesh. At almost seven minutes long, it’s an electronic R&B epic, with helicopter-like distortion from producer The Haxan Cloak toward the end.

Check out “blisters,” below, and get excited for the full EP, dropping September 2 on Tri Angle Records.
