Ocoeur’s sound is one that’s as bold as it is elegant. ‘Au coeur’ simply translates as ‘to the heart’ and the French born composer, modern pianist and sound designer has plenty of it. His musical output is a personal insight into his emotions that is laid out with the utmost levels of beauty and we are delighted to welcome him with his debut i-D Slumber Session mix.
Reversed is the fourth album from the Frenchman for Mike Cadoo’s emotive electronic music imprint n5MD, and sees him venture through delicate piano, light percussion, pads and strings, all interspersed with field recordings and subtle effects that make it such an intricate and mesmerising record.
Speaking on the Slumber Session, Ocoeur explains, “It inspired me to go back through my personal ambient collection. And it was such a pleasure to pick up some of my favourite tracks. I tried to make a kind of journey beginning from a deep sleep and slowly evolving to awakening.” Delay no more and drift through the night with the ambient sounds of Ocoeur. This one is truly beautiful.
The party’s still going strong, but you want to call it a night. What track do you pop on when everyone’s still raving and it’s time to go to sleep?
I-Monster, Heaven
Where do you go when the record ends and the lights come on?
I hurry up and go deep into my fluffy bed.
After a hectic tour schedule, you finally get home, what track do you put on to kick back and relax?
I don’t listen to music generally, I prefer to lay down and fall asleep naturally.
Do you ever fall asleep to music, and if so what do you play?
Not all time but if so I do play Steve Roach, A Deeper Silence
What’s the best dream you’ve ever had?Hard to say as I have many. There is one which began in a urban black & white city and then turned into a lucid dream. I was controlling everything and I decided to draw a huge colored sun in the sky where I was flying.
Who is the last person you kissed goodnight?
My girlfriend.
You’ve caught each other’s eye across a crowded dancefloor. What do you play to ensure things move from the box to the bedroom?
I never do such things.
Sleep is always the hardest to come by when you need it the most. What track is guaranteed to bring on the shut eye after a heavy weekend?
Christian Scott, Isadora
What track makes you want to cuddle up to the one you love?
Big Black Delta, Dreary Moon
What song gets you out of bed in the morning?
Helios, A Mountain of Ice
What is the most relaxing track/ mix/ playlist in your collection? And what do you like to do when listening to it?
Depends on my mood, but for this period I listen frequently to the album Retold by Nest. Looking through windows and letting my drift.
Finish the sentence, the music sounds better with…
…without neighbours.
