Solange’s new album sounds like it was made in a dream, and a newly-released behind-the-scenes documentary, A Seat at the Table, Beginning Stages, proves this was essentially the case. We’re welcomed into various homey studios to witness Solange and her collaborators jamming to devise the songs and concepts that form the album. It’s an intimate glimpse into Solange’s organic creative process and the spirit in which the album was made.

The short documentary is broken up into three parts: beginning in Long Island, it follows the making of the album across New Orleans and finally New Iberia, LA. Some of the most adorable footage involves Solange and her son Julez practicing the dance they performed to “No Flex Zone” at her wedding.

On her Instagram Solange stated, “I’m really excited to share with you a little film that documents the early stages of my songwriting, jam sessions, and collaborations of #aseatatthetable … 3 years ago, I moved into a small house in the middle of a sugar cane field in New Iberia, LA with just my engineers @mixedbyblue and @audio_nino to write the songs that have now become the songs on the album.”
