French fashion house Sonia Rykiel has transported some of Parisian chic to New York for its fall/winter 16 campaign. The iconic label tapped British photographer Glen Luchford to shoot on location in NYC, working with stylist Camilla Nickerson and Rykiel’s art director Peter Miles to create the Paris-inflected images. “I’ve followed Glen’s work for a very long time since the 90’s and have always loved his eye and photography,” shared Sonia Rykiel designer Julie De Libran. “I have always wanted to work with him and was so happy we could work together for this ad campaign. It was an amazing teamwork with Glen, Camilla and Peter.”
Showcasing that good things really do come in pairs, the ad features models Grace Hartzel and Matilda Dods framed as identical twins due to their uncanny likeness. Posing on a hotel rooftop in NYC, the girls mirror each other, the images representing the Parisienne women at the heart of the brand with classic designs including Breton stripes, red, white and blues and even a faux Eiffel Tower.
“We wanted to reproduce the spirit of Paris, Sonia Rykiel being such an iconic French brand. So we found the Eiffel Tower in NYC on the roof of a hotel, which was fun and created this repeated image, so we cast Gracie and Mathilda as identical twins and dressed them in the same way which I felt this exaggerated image was quite straight forward, playful, surprising as is the Rykiel women,” Julie adds.
