Stormzy caused mass panic among the nation’s inadequate boyfriends yesterday, writing and recording a song for his girlfriend’s birthday. Eschewing the traditional chocolate and bodega flowers, the man they call Skengman released the Sons of Sonix-produced track in honor of beau Maya Jama’s 22nd, tweeting: “That was for the Mrs but I hope any girl that hears it can vibe to it and play it on their birthday also and feel special #BirthdayGirl.”
While “Birthday Girl” marks somewhat of a change of pace for the South London rapper — swapping the scary vibe of his last release for something decidedly more romantic — he was keen to point out, “Yes I’m sarft but I’ll also happily fight you so what now”: proof that, when it comes to birthdays, the key is to get you a man who can do both.
