Philipp Plein shows are like the superbowl of the fashion world, blending sports elements like ice hockey padding and motorcycle leathers with a studded and sparkly Beyoncé-level of glamour.
Although the German designer went for a slightly more subtle take on modern masculinity for autumn/winter 16 — dressing a squadron of hot models including Lucky Blue Smith in chic black tailoring, panelled leather and gold studded accessories — he still put on a huge show. Lil’ Wayne performed atop a golden skate ramp, accompanied by a 30 piece orchestra while stunt performers whizzed past on skateboards and BMX bikes – if that’s not a modern luxury experience, we don’t know what is.
Dubbed #PLEINHERO, the collection nods to Batman and Superman with their symbols emblazoned in gold across sweaters and likenesses spray painted onto leather jackets. The models were strapped into “cross-bred sneaker/brogues” that have custom-made air-filled soles “allowing them to fly off like modern day super men”. Sounds pretty super to us!
