Supreme and The North Face have joined creative forces for a second time on a brand new spring/summer 16 collection. This time around, inspiration has been taken from The North Face’s 1991 Steep Tech range, brainchild of legendary extreme skier Scot Schmidt. “Back in the day, a lot of the ski suits didn’t have the things I needed, and I was always stitching things together… making them more usable,” says Scot, whose aim was to create more functional ski apparel.
Some of the innovations Schmidt brought to the table were more durable materials, relocated pockets and added webbing, which proved to be an instant hit, with the original Steep Tech collection being produced for seven years, getting discontinued and promptly brought back after popular demand. The new collection in collaboration with Supreme has been created in the same vein, consisting of a waterproof, abrasion-resistant nylon Steep Tech Hooded Jacket, Steep Tech Hooded Sweatshirt, Steep Tech Sweatpants, and Backpack.
Supreme x The North Face spring/summer 16 collection will be available in-store in NY, LA, London and Paris and online from 7 April.. The collection will also be available in Japan on 9 April.
