We were all ‘mad as hell‘ when SZA’s debut album, Ctrl was snubbed at this year’s Grammy’s, but it seems the R&B queen is ready to call it quits after her second release drops.
In a recent interview with Flaunt, the singer-songwriter alluded to the idea that she was thinking of cutting her career (prematurely) short. “I’m still miserable,” she explained. “My world got so much smaller so fast. I have so much to write about. I feel like I’m in a cage. I’m making the best album of my life for this next album and I know that… because it’s going to be my last album.”
Happily note, however, that SZA’s comments were delivered with a grin. Also this wouldn’t be the first time she’s hinted at quitting when stress levels peak. SZA is also open about the fact that she’s working on her insecurities and depression. “To be woefully insecure is an expression of selfishness, because you think everything is about you,” she told Flaunt. “You’re now interpreting everybody’s movements and thoughts in the room as a worst-case scenario based on you, which is low-key crazy and highly egoic… I started working on my inner self—how I feel, and regulating my energy. And then the world around me got better.”
Let’s hope for many more albums ahead… Grammy award-winning or otherwise.
