One of the locations we’ve found ourselves pining after most during lockdown is the Tate Modern. Particularly on the last Friday of each month, not just because it’s payday, but also because that’s when the former power-station opens its doors late into the night for its UNIQLO Tate Lates series. It’s here you can view the museum’s exhibitions, whilst enjoying music from NTS DJs.
Obviously, as with literally anything that requires physical presence and participation to enjoy, Ms Rona has thrown a spanner in the works, cancelling the last two iterations of one of London’s best-loved regular cultural events. Until now, that is. For the May edition of UNIQLO Tate Lates, Tate invites you to join for a night in, this Friday from 19.00–21.00 BST. With one stream dedicated to artist talks and workshops, and the other to music, film and spoken word, virtual visitors will be able to curate their evening from a programme of top-tier artist-led content.
There’ll be conversations between Tate Modern’s director, Frances Morris, and Kara Walker, whose commission, Fons Americanus, remains in the Turbine Hall during lockdown, as well as with Wolfgang Tillmans on his current 2020 solidarity project; a DIY zine workshop with the collective RIOT SOUP; a screening of Meriem Bennani and Orian Barki’s 2 Lizards; an NTS set by Floating Points; and more.
