taylor swift uses memes to call out gossip mag misogyny

The singer has Bad Blood with a magazine over “pregnancy” clickbait headline and for referring to her in reference to various boyfriends.

To refer to a multi-platinum selling, armfuls-of-awards-gathering, global megastar in the opening line of an article about her as “Calvin Harris’ rumored girlfriend” is the kind of crazy-misogynist bullshit that makes Taylor Swift draft in the killer whale meme.

Swift tweeted, “@OK_Magazine this misleading headline and your choice of words in labeling me are why we need feminism in 2015”, along with an image of a killer whale jumping out of the sea with the caption, “i came out of the ocean because you need to stop”.

The offending article, by OK! magazine, also refers to Swift as “Harry Styles’ ex girlfriend” and was misleadingly promoted on Twitter with the line, “Singer @taylorswift13 has made a ‘pregnancy announcement’!” – Swift had merely posed with a couple who wanted to announce their pregnancy through a selfie with her.

Swift’s response echoes Ariana Grande’s recent assertion that, “I’m not Big Sean’s ex. I’m not [Niall Horan]’s ‘possible new girl.’ I’m Ariana Grande — and if that’s not interesting enough, don’t talk to me,” which she deployed alongside an awesome Gloria Steinem quote.
