Comedians Cariad Lloyd and Jenny Bede have taken the title of Taylor Swift’s Bad Blood entirely literally, creating a spoof aimed at George Osborne and the 5% “luxury VAT” added on to tampons and other sanitary products in the UK. I mean, we already pay in pain, mood swings, adult acne and tender areolas, what’s a little tax on the luxury of menstruating? A change.org petition has already gained over 240,000 signatures campaigning for sanitary products to join Osborne’s tax-free list of “essentials”, which includes marshmallow teacakes, kangaroo meat and helicopters.
Headed up by Heavy Flow and Applic Hater aka Lloyd and Bede, and their loyal band of followers including Madame Ovary, Aunti Flo, Oestro Jen and Jen da Bias, the gang wage a war on tampon tax, rapping:
“I can’t fathom that you’d think to add,
An extra fee like VAT on my Tampax,
My Sani T deemed luxury – ID your facts,
No doubt without be like Tarantino filmed my pants.”
Their final message? “Come on George Osborne, you can scrap the tax – whyd’ya think your box is red?”
