With spring/summer 17 starting in London in June, and the fashion industry seemingly still stuck in a moment of transition, one thing is certain: London remains an incubator of exciting and innovative fashion talent.
There’s no easier (and better) indicator of the health of the city’s menswear scene than simply taking a look at the list of designers the BFC has awarded NEWGEN sponsorship to this season; from Cottweiler’s organic futurism to Liam Hodges subcultural gangs, Craig Green’s multi-faceted minimalism to PIETER’s references to modern gay culture. The city’s creative output remains as strong as ever.
This season they will be joined by Grace Wales Bonner — who’s moving on from MAN — alongside Phoebe English, and recent CSM grad Kiko Kostandinov. Agi & Sam, Astrid Andersen, and Nasir Mazhar are all moving on after receiving sponsorship for the last six seasons.
Established in 2009, NEWGEN has provided the launch pad for everyone from Christopher Raeburn to Christopher Shannon, JW Anderson to James Long, and has been instrumental in turning London into a global menswear destination.
The full list of recipients are: Alex Mullins, Bobby Abley, Cottweiler, Craig Green, Diego Vanassibara, Grace Wales Bonner, Kiko Kostandinov, Liam Hodges, PIETER, and Phoebe English.
