    the i-D team’s lfw round-up

It's been another stand out season for London, and the i-D team share their most inspiring moments, from Christopher Kane's tribute to Louise Wilson to Ryan Lo's mermaid cove.

From the biggies, my favourites hands down were Peter Pilotto and Christopher Kane, both so incredibly beautiful and intricate. From the capital’s younger design talent, I was really impressed with Marques’Almeida and Faustine Steinmetz, seeing the clothes up close, both made their clothes with quality and were achingly cool at the same time. If I were a designer, I would want my collections to be statements and my shows to provoke strong feelings in people. This week, four designers made me happy that way, all in very different ways: Sibling, for their comment on the lack of individuality in modern society and their garments’ tribute to a time when celebrities weren’t so safe and boring. Mary Katrantzou, for the awe hers and Alex de Betak’s epic show production inspired in me and for using the intelligent and original collection reference of ancient geology. Erdem, for his showmanship and ability to convey such complicated feelings and stories through garments and for the magic. And Meadham Kirchhoff, for trying to make a difference in the way we look at each other and ourselves and for their fearlessness and kindness. Anders Christian Madsen, Fashion Features Editor

I like the way Nasir Mazhar does ‘sexy’ – for women and for men – but without it being at all cheesy. Great casting, too. I can totally imagine tough London girls wearing this and giving daggers to everyone who stares. I also like Christopher Kane’s collection – he is one of the most genuinely talented designers around and manages to be both commercial and adventurous in his approach, which is not easy.  It’s cute that he dedicated the show to the late Louise Wilson, who taught him when he was at Central Saint Martins, and who was herself very hardcore and very stylish. James Anderson, Contributing Editor

Claire Barrow always and forever – designers like her are why London’s cool. No geometric print turquoise cocktail dresses in sight! Bertie Brandes, Features Editor

From Sibling’s fabulous frothy numbers, to Ryan Lo’s I want everything collection. Ed Marler’s debut at Fashion East & Meadham Kirchhoff’s reject everything attitude. Oh and newcomer Mary Benson. Lots to like this season. Princess Julia, Cultural Correspondent

The give-a-shit ripped slips by Louise Alsop, all the black at Marques’Almeida and Ryan Lo cutting a sailor like shape amongst a giant seahorse and glistening mermaids. Felicity Kinsella, Assistant Editor

My LFW highlight was paddling through Ryan Lo’s mermaid cove. The girls glittered, glowed and i-D winked for the camera as I stood and wished my hardest that I was a sea siren too. All future fashion shows should be mermaid themed. Francesca Dunn, Staff Writer

The attitude at Nasir and Meadham Kirchhoff, very different, but both great in their own celebrations of individuality. And Sibling’s bows. Felix Petty, Content Manager

Being seduced by the sheer romance of Simone Rocha yet again before being brought back down to earth by Meadham Kirchhoff’s fabulous fuck you. Special mention has to be made to the dreamy designer worlds of Ryan Lo, Faustine Steinmetz and Sophia Webster. As the schedule gets busier each season, we’re treated to a growing number of presentations that afford the designer’s and their teams the freedom to truly create their own space. Steve Salter, Head of Socials

My LFW highlights were all in the details: the fluffy feathered trim at Simone Rocha, the unusual button play at J.W. Anderson, the leaf embroidery at Jonathan Saunders. Rory Satran, Editorial Director, US

J.W. Anderson’s collection was the one for me. I loved everything about it from the layering, fabrics and colours to the amazing hats. I thought it was really inspiring and felt genuinely new. Tracey Nicholson, Fashion Editor, US

Marques’Almeida goin’ all PJ Harvey! Emily Manning, Assistant Editor, US
