"I’m jiggy; I’m handsome. I can’t help it, I was born that way!"

At first, hip-hop and Tribeca might seem like unlikely bedfellows. But one look at the full house that A$AP Rocky drew to the festival last night suggests otherwise. Joining music journalist Elliott Wilson on-stage for the newest instalment in his #CRWN interview series (previous guests include Nicki and Drake) our cover-boy, Pretty Flacko, discussed everything from clubbing to fashion. If the enlightening interview is anything to go by, hip-hop might be at Tribeca to stay. Here’s what A$AP Rocky had to say on…

His influences, then and now:
“I’d be full of shit if I didn’t tell you that when I was 16 I wasn’t inspired by Kanye West, you know what I’m saying, I’d be lying. But now that I’m older I’m inspired by me and other motherfuckers like Earl [Sweatshirt] and other motherfuckers that are putting out dope art: Action Bronson, Danny Brown.”

Fashion:
“Skinny jeans are not for everybody. I make them look good. I’m jiggy, I’m handsome. I can’t help it, I was born that way!”

Nightlife:
“I don’t like clubs man, my back be hurting and shit. I go to a club, turn up, and like 30 minutes later I be ready to go.”

Hood by Air:
“I made them famous. It’s the truth. You know how hard it is to make a fashion line big? You know how many aspiring designers are in this city alone that need that chance?”

The state of rap:
“Rap is the new wrestling. Am I lying? Make a weird-ass name, say some dumb shit, and everybody loves you.”

And giving outfit repeating his stamp of approval:
“I’m me, you know what I’m saying? I literally had this on yesterday [points to his outfit], but I still look good. You wouldn’t have known it if I hadn’t told you.”
