Emerging New York bag maker, BAMIN, has launched an online store. The items are already on sale at LN-CC in London, but have previously only been available online through invitation. The acronym comes from “Build And Make It Now” because you can buy component parts and construct your own carryall, duffel, overnight or briefcase in a variety of colours, patterns and materials.
LN-CC’s John Skelton told i-D, “I think BAMIN as a brand is indicative of the direction that the world of product is moving in: high quality and highly versatile, whilst keeping a luxury feel and aesthetic.”
Its multi-tasking founder, writer, entrepreneur and designer, Robert Cordero, takes his inspiration from “digital-age creativity like user-generated content, mash-ups and remixes, so we let people build their own unisex bags and infinitely remix them for their evolving lives.”
Cordero is also a technology geek and a huge fan of progressive fashion designers Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, but especially Helmut Lang. “Lang’s design work defined minimalism in fashion during the late 90s and early aughts, but he was also a digital pioneer which I think he doesn’t get enough credit for. He was the first person to stream his collection online, years before popular platforms to show fashion today like Style.com.”
