Charli XCX, After The Afterparty ft. Lil Yachty
There’s absolutely no excuse to still be listening to R.Kelly, because the latest and greatest ever afterparty song just came along. Super addictive, it’s full of Riri shoutouts, heys, claps, and just the right dose of PC Music courtesy of SOPHIE. And because Charli knows how to treat us, there’s a feature from the captain of Atlanta’s boat club, Lil Yachty. The first single from her killer forthcoming album, the track is about “partying through eternity, into the afterlife and forever after! Everyone’s invited – Lil Yachty, all the angels; everybody in the entire world (just bring some champagne, though).” Time to sail off into the sunset with this on repeat.
Splashh, Rings
AUS/US band Splashh are currently based in London while they tease out new sounds, hang with their model mates, and gear up for life on the road. Taken from their forthcoming record Waiting A Lifetime, out February 2017, Rings was the first song frontman Sasha wrote when he moved to New York. “It’s kind of a song about having a battle with your decisions in life…” he told i-D, “it’s kind of an ambitious track, kind of brutal.” Having already played with Yak at Scala the other day, this handsome lot are guaranteed to make an even bigger splashh when they headline Moth Club on 7 November.
Higher Brothers, Isabellae (蝴蝶) Prod. by Charlie Heat
Chinese rap group Higher Brothers spent years breaching firewalls to uncover U.S. rap, only to then go full circle: enlisting Kanye-approved American producer Charlie Heat on knob twiddling duties for new single Isabellae. No idea what it’s all about but it sounds absolutely mega.
Sporting Life, Nothing To Hide ft. Devonte Hynes and Wiki
Yes, you all saw Dev’s new video for I Know in which he dances with Russian ballerina Maria Kochetkova… but did you catch this? The third and final volume of NY producer Sporting Life’s Slam Dunk EP, Nothing To Hide is a late-night smokey tune and comes complete with a remix by Dean Blunt’s Babyfather.
A$AP Mob, Telephone Calls
Normally we’re against telephone calls – does anybody know how to handle them anymore? Not us. But for the latest track to drop from A$AP Mob’s Cozy Tapes Vol. 1, due to drop on Halloween, we’re willing to make an exception. Trying to get hold of him (perhaps to let him know how much they enjoyed the Dexter Navy-directed Money Man?) Tyler The Creator, Playboi Carti and Yung Gleesh give Rocky a bell and leave a message after the tone.
Dark0, Forever
A very good music/video combo from endlessly melodic, recent XL signee Dark0. Lead track of his new Oceana EP (out today), Forever forgoes the London producer’s previous grime-facing sound for a pitched-up sugar rush into more pop-orientated territory. Nice visuals from producer Sybil Montet de Doria too.
Kelora, Boy
We know absolutely nothing about these two other than they’re from Glasgow and they make lovely, fragile music for singing in hi vis jackets. Taken from an upcoming four track EP, they’re having a launch party Glasgow’s Pipe Factory on 18 November, where the physical release will take the form of a glow in the dark screen print with a download code on the back. The future of the music industry starts right here, readers.
Kojey Raidcal, Gallons ft. PW and Sasha Keable
“Gallons is the kind of record I want played very loudly at my funeral,” says Kojey. “It’s how I feel every time I see my brothers get stopped and searched or when I hear about another person of colour amount to nothing more than commemorative hashtag. Gallons is a uniting of class, it’s a celebration of struggle. The conversation doesn’t die when you kill us. Seeds of positivity will ensure that the beauty in all our differences will come together and grow for future generations.” What more can we say?
Lovely Eggs, Drug Braggin
Lancaster’s Jarvis Cocker approved, cult heroes return with another fucked up, fuzzed out freak out. Ever wonder what would happen if you combined a Leslie Speaker and a finely tuned Northern, bullshit detector? Here’s the answer.
Le Tigre, I’m With Her
Le Tigre reboot for a Clinton endorsing, Trump kiss-off; their first new material in over a decade. “We don’t want a racist in the presidency,” goes the lyric. Sure, Clinton might not be the ideal opposition but if Kathleen Hanna and a bunch of cat videos can’t get you to the polls we don’t know what will.
