the soundtrack to your weekend ft. skepta, THEY. and takashi miyaki

Press play on the new releases we've had on repeat this week.

    Skepta, No Security

After shutting down the Brits this week, Skeppy’s back with a brand new track. In the video for No Security, directed by Matt Walker, watch the impeccably dressed King of Tottenham dance his now iconic dance through a prison, a record label, and on a banquet table – if you ever wanted to see Skepta singing in the rain, now’s your chance.

    THEY., Truth Be Told

Keener-eyed Soundtrack to Your Weekend readers may remember us mentioning THEY. before. The collective name of L.A. based glyph-botherers, Dante and Drew, they (THEY.) might be young but they’ve (THEY’VE.) already collaborated with Timbaland, toured with Bryson Tiller and knocked out a very good video in the shape of alarm clock banger U-Rite. The pair’s debut album is out today and you can have a listen HERE. if you like (alright, that’s enough).

Calvin Harris, Slide feat. Frank Ocean and Migos

Calvin Harris kicks off his mission to create music “sonically designed to make you feel fucking incredible” now with a song that makes us feel, if not incredible, then pretty good. Like we’ve just had a Twix or found a fiver in an old coat pocket. Up and coming singer Frank Ocean’s on it too would you believe.

Busy P, Genie feat. Mayer Hawthorne

Soulful space disco from Ed Banger Records boss Busy P. Lose yourself in the keytar like the video’s protagonist – who discovers the dangers of sleep-dancing on the tube.

    The Blaze, Territory

Themes of belonging, masculinity, savagery and tenderness now from French producer/directors The Blaze. It’s taken from a forthcoming debut EP and they made the Algiers-shot video themselves, the clever so and sos.

Lord Pusswhip, Lord Pusswhip is Dead

This sounds like it’s playing from a cassette deep inside a wooden record player. It’s distant but too close at the same time, with lilting flutes and harp samples, by our Icelandic buddy, Lord Pusswhip.

    Takashi Miyaki, Girls on T.V.

In this kaleidoscopic neon lit cityscape for Takashi Miyaki’s Girls On TV, director James Franco’s showgirl is Juno Temple, who walks through the song’s lyrics like they’re temptations on the Sunset Strip. A reflection on the United States’ brash new Americana.

    Soleima, Breathe (feat. Hoodboi)

Danish pop thing Soleima chucks out another one from her debut EP No. 14 here in the form of Breathe (feat. Hoodboi). There’s a sort of an elephant sound effect running all the way through it and if that isn’t reason enough to listen we don’t know what is #journalism

    Goss, Time

This super-slow slow-jam is the exact kind of song you want to come on the taxi radio after a late one this weekend. An ode to the fourth dimension, the alleged greatest healer, this could soundtrack Dali’s The Persistence of Memory. Listen closely, you can almost hear the clocks melting.

Katy Perry, Chained To The Rhythm (Official) ft. Skip Marley

And finally, probably the catchiest critique of neo-liberalism performed in a cod-reggae style we’ve heard all week. Here’s to more woke-era Katy Perry in the form of I Kissed A Girl (And Discovered Intersectional Feminism) and If We Ever Meet Again (I’ll Be Sure to Lend You My Copy of Noam Chomsky’s Occupy).
