Depending on how much you like window-shopping (read: a lot, hopefully), we’ve got some important information for the sneakerheads among you. According to data by the online marketplace StockX, this year’s most expensive trainers in the world have been revealed. Keep your wallets firmly closed.
Jordan 4 Retro Eminem Encore
In fourth place is one of the rarest Air Jordan 4s to date: Eminem’s Air Jordan 4 Encore. Designed in blue, black, and red colourways, these shoes are valued at around £16,157 and only 23 pairs were ever made available to the public. Talk about exclusive.
Nike Dunk SB Low Paris
Twist! It’s a tie for second and third place! Back in 2003, only 202 pairs of the Nike Dunk SB Low ‘Paris’ were made. They feature cut-outs of printed artwork by the French painter Bernard Buffet in bright, comic-style panelling, and no two pairs are the same. Today they retail for around £19,234.
adidas Human Race NMD Pharrell x Chanel
Also valued at £19,234 per pair is the result of a three-way collab between Adidas, Chanel and Pharrell (pictured top). It’s 2020 — we’ve seen stranger bedfellows. The shoe has a black-and-white minimal design, and was released in celebration of a Chanel pop-up at Colette, the dearly departed Parisian concept store.
Nike MAG Back to the Future
Finally, our winner. With the iconic film series’s 35th anniversary soon approaching, Nike’s Back To The Future shoes still hold the title of the most expensive sneakers in the world at resale. There’s no doubt the nostalgia factor plays a huge part in what makes these so sought after. Modelled on the self-lacing sneakers Marty McFly wears in Back to the Future Part II, only 89 pairs were produced as a limited run in 2016. Now, each pair is worth around £24,831. Ouch.
If you feel tempted to try and pull off some time-travelling shenanigans to raise the cash for these shoes, say, with a bookie and an almanac, we certainly won’t blame you.
