These Berlin kids are taking the future into their own hands

Together with Reebok, we celebrate young creatives who use their talent to change the here and now.

It doesn’t matter what you do, but how you do it. Because at the end of the day, we want to be remembered for the things we created, the way we paved for the future generation. It’s all about our very own legacy we’re writing. One that is inspired by all the places and people we meet and influence us every day. It’s our community that makes us who we are and encourages us to take one risk after the other. Instead of worrying about what we might be missing, we just create it ourselves. We can’t change what came before, but it’s up to us what’s next.

Inspired by the past and built for the future, Reebok’s Legacy collection reimagined timeless classics by combining retro charm with upcycling materials. Known for celebrating ambitious creators all around the world who use their talent and skills to create a positive future, Reebok and i-D teamed up to bring the new collection to Berlin’s vibrant streets and asked four creatives to share their legacy with us.

How would you describe your style?

Casual, unconventional and timeless. It’s important to me to wear what I feel comfortable in. It doesn’t matter what other people think about it or to attract attention with my looks.

How does Berlin inspire your style?

There are so many people with different cultures living together here. Even subcultures have their place in the cityscape and don’t take place on the fringes of society. I like to be carried away by these impressions and the vibe of the city. Everyone can be who they are or who they want to be in Berlin.

With their Legacy collection, Reebok wants to encourage the next generation to question the status quo. What do you want to pass on?

Be brave on the way to find yourself and don’t let society influence you too much!

What’s the best part about living in Berlin?

The ‘Spätis’ (editor’s note: a type of convenience shop found particularly in Berlin), which are open almost 24 hours a day. And of course also the diversity of cultures within our city.

When do you feel most in balance with yourself?

When I don’t have to worry about anything and can go skating in peace.

How does skateboarding influence your style?

I guess, it’s give and take within the skate scene as we all learn something from each other.

Don’t be told how to live your life. You are an independent person with your own goals. I always find it sad that most parents are still forcing a certain future or way of doing things on you, which makes your creativity suffer. Without skateboarding, I wouldn’t be where I am now!

You always have your camera with you to take photos of your friends. What do you like most about them?

We’re always there for each other. I can share everything with them, the good and the bad. When I take photos of my friends, I want to show a version of them which they might don’t even know yet.

    What does Berlin stand for?

    Freedom and independence.

What’s the perfect place to wear the new Reebok Legacy Collection?

Probably to the Späti with wide suit trousers and a black hoodie.

When do you feel most in balance with yourself?

When I’m alone, drawing or editing photos, preferably on my balcony.

What’s your favourite way of expressing yourself?

Right now, I love to express myself with photography because I can transport feelings much better through pictures than fashion as I have more control over it. That’s something I’ll probably think about a little longer now…

What’s the best way to relax in a city like Berlin?

Spending time alone, driving out of town. Music helps me a lot, too.

I’m only 22 years old and still have a lot to learn, but I’d say: just do your thing.
