In the Oscar nominated film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Mildred Hayes (Frances McDormand) decides to take out a series of adverts on the three neglected billboards outside of her local town — a punchy move that sees her asking the local police chief (Woody Harrelson) why no arrests have been made months after the rape and murder of her teenage daughter.
Inspired by McDormand’s character, #Justice4Grenfell have done the very same thing. Hiring three vans, the collective have used the same bold black type on eye catching red to display the words ‘71 Dead’, ‘And still no arrests?‘, How come?’. The vans stopped for a time outside Grenfell before making their way to the Houses of Parliament, where the 14-foot billboards currently reside.
It’s been eight months, almost to the day, since the devastating fire on 14 June that tore through through the west London tower. “Listen to our voices now,” #Justice4Grenfell tweeted. The post follows a silent march last night where hundreds turned out at Kensington and Chelsea Borough Council to demand answers about one of the worst fires London has ever seen.
