If you haven’t been able to keep up with everything that’s been going down on WitchTok over the past few days, well, no one is blaming you. Rumours that a group of inexperienced witches had placed a hex on the moon spread from TikTok to Reddit and Twitter, prompting mass confusion, hysteria, and Mark Zuckerberg memes.

A detailed explanation of the recent witchy happenings was written up by Twitter user @heyyadoraa, who broke down everything from the specifics of the gods involved to exactly what a hex is.

Also involved in the pandemonium are a group of fairy-like, non-human creatures called the Fae, who were apparently hexed along with the moon. The Fae, or Fair Folk, “do not abide by human morals,” writes @heyyadoraa, “because they are not human. Morality is a human construct. Fair Folk are not inherently malevolent, but they have different customs than we do.” And if you mess with them? “You’ve now got trickery for the rest of your life and maybe a bloodline curse! If you’re lucky. They’ll probably also steal your soul.” Naturally.

A few users claimed that one of the “baby” witches behind the hex had already died, but it doesn’t seem like there’s any real evidence to back it up. For now, the hexers have not been personally identified in order to protect them from harassment. Besides, if they’ve angered as many magical beings as they supposedly have, they’ll have enough on their hands anyway. The origin of these hexing rumours however, still remains unclear.

21-year-old TikTok user Frankie Anne (@chaoticwitchaunt) assured her viewers that any celestial bodies involved would almost certainly be unaffected by any attempted hexes, and that they shouldn’t fear their wrath. “The Gods will take care of it,” she wrote. “They are not hurt, just annoyed. They also won’t take some kid’s stupidity out on the entire human race.” Good to know, we definitely don’t need more to deal with right now.
