The V&A is set to be the place to be for fashion exhibitions in 2019. First up, we’ve got a huge Dior retrospective coming, the biggest ever in the UK and, with over 500 objects and 200 rare Haute Couture garments, the museum’s biggest fashion exhibition since the McQueen Savage Beauty show in 2015. They’ll follow that up with the first ever retrospective dedicated to Mary Quant, focussing on the years from 1955-1975, when the designer created subversive fashions for the swinging sixties, and invented the miniskirt.

Announced yesterday, the third in this trilogy of fashion extravaganzas, is an exhibition dedicated to the photographer Tim Walker, inventor of fantastical and hallucinatory fashion worlds in a career spanning over 25 years. Details are thin on the ground, but there will be a brand new series of images dedicated to the inspiration Tim’s drawn from the museum over the years.

It also promises to pay homage to the people who help create Tim’s imagery; the stylists, set designers and make-up artists who are integral to his vision, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the creativity that goes into creating a Tim Walker image.
