Beyoncé’s most recent tour-de-force Lemonade received four Emmy nominations this afternoon — establishing Bey as not only a decorated musician (ten Grammys to her name and she’s been nominated more times than any other musician) and actress (remember her leading role in Dreamgirls, alongside the Oscar-winning Jennifer Hudson?), but also a celebrated director. The visual album, distributed through HBO, was nominated for Outstanding Variety Special, Outstanding Production Design For A Variety, Nonfiction, Event Or Award Special, Outstanding Picture Editing For Variety Programming and Outstanding Directing For A Variety Special.
If Beyoncé wins an Emmy, she’ll be just two letters away from claiming an EGOT— an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and a Tony. There are only twelve entertainers who have earned an EGOT, among them Whoopi Goldberg and Audrey Hepburn. With peers like them, we can see Beyoncé fitting in just perfectly.
