transphobic band dropped by record label

Whirr's stream of deeply offensive tweets have likely cost them their career.

California band Whirr might have Tweeted their career away. A few days ago, they kicked off a slew of offensive tweets by insulting feminist punk band G.L.O.S.S., whose front-woman is trans. “g.l.o.s.s. Is just a bunch of boys running around in panties making shitty music.” the band opened, before comparing the band to Buffalo Bill, from Silence of the Lambs. It looked like things couldn’t get any more offensive, but they did. The band turned their focus to suicide, tweeting “lol attempting suicide. If you’re gonna do it, do it right the first time.”The tweets have since been deleted, but you can find them all here.

Almost immediately, Whirr’s label, Run For Cover Records cut all ties with the band. Graveface Records, who’ve also released Whirr’s music, did the same soon. G.L.O.S.S’s front-woman, Sadie Switchblade, joined Twitter exclusively to deliver a series of cutting burns (see above) to Whirr, which were infinitely more clever than anything they’ve ever released.

Later, Run For Cover issued another statement to Pitchforkannouncing they would be “donating $3,000 to a TBA non profit in support of equal rights for LGBTQ. We will be posting what organization later today, we just didn’t want to jump the gun on that decision.”

The band have since sent out a statement saying their friend, who no longer has access to their account, sent out the tweets.
