They say the best things come in pairs, and we couldn’t be more excited about the latest pairing of super cool Japanese label, Uniqlo, and leading art institution, Tate Modern. To celebrate the launch of the new Tate Modern, this weekend Uniqlo will be taking over Level 6 of Herzog & de Meuron’s exquisitely designed Switch House, to host a series of thrilling events, called London Dreaming. “We are thrilled to be partnering with Tate Modern and are proud that through this relationship we can reinforce Uniqlo’s longstanding commitment to London, our first market outside of Japan, and our desire to continue to improve our offering for both a local and a global customer audience,” said Uniqlo’s Europe CEO, Takao Kuwahara. Elsewhere in the gallery, Uniqlo will be supporting a series of specially commissioned opening weekend events, including a choral work by artist Peter Liversidge and free screenings of archival film and video works by Derek Jarman, Andrea Fraser and more, in the newly refurbished Starr Cinema.
Following on from the opening weekend celebrations, Tate Modern will introduce UNIQLO Fridays; a series of special events involving music, arts and culture, which will see the gallery open late to the public, while the recently re-launched Uniqlo global flagship store, on 311 Oxford Street, will play host to a number of exciting and immersive events, designed to get London dreaming. Watch this space.
The new Tate Modern opens Friday 15th June.
